On this week’s installment of Better Messages, I sit down with my friend and fellow dad, Adam Ferguson, who just released a brilliant book called The Things You Have to Do Before I Buy You a Phone, full of wonder-inducing requirements for kids before they take the digital plunge.

Our conversation quickly shifts from reflecting on some of his book’s more outrageous suggestions (like “break a minor law”) to discussing how we, as parents, can realistically navigate this very real challenge: our kids are glued to their phones and missing out on the world around them.
